July 5-6
Report by Mitch Bonnar
Notwithstanding the Weather man was calling for rain until Friday then changed his mind......the Weather was absolutely beautiful all weekend but I believe it affected the vehicle count. We had 140 vehicles in attendance.
Saturdays temp was 84 F or 29C
Time trials and sunburn were in abundance all around.
Some fellows went home with more beef in their wallets than they came with when the Box No / Box was over:
No Box - Ray Ingram
- Bruce Howatt
Box - Conrad Neisten
- Tommie Vickery
Run off King of the Hill - Ray Ingram
Jr. Dragsters - Courtney Munroe
Nine people signed up for Trophy Class and the run off Champ was Devin Bosozzi
Sundays racing was great, biggest disaster was a rear window from a Mustang shattered over 300 feet of the track. Do you know how many thousands of little pieces they make? Man, it took 10 people 1/2 hour to sweep and pick up that mess.
|
The highest temperatures I saw were 93.6F or 34C in the shade, track temp of 124F and inside my car temp of 144F.
A big Thank You to all those that attended from both near and afar. With the cost of fuel these days we understand the reluctance to travel if it looks like bad weather.
Again thanks to all the volunteers, they do a great job for your track and they do it all for free too.
Setup and tear down was a snap with many hands to help. Great stuff.
See you all at the next one.

![]() June 21-22 Report by Don Phillips
Weather was great, everyone got lots of runs due to a fairly low car count. There was lots of carnage - mostly transmissions. On Saturday two S/Pro cars were out with starter problems, One bike and two cars with catastrophic engine failure and there were some mechanical gremlins in almost every pit space. Sunday we had some of the closest margins of victory in quite some time.
Saturday's Gamblers Race results:

2.James Lyons
Bike/Sled
1. Justin shaw
2. Paul Metcalfe

Clarenville Dragway first Event 2008. Briefly Rain, rain and generally more rain!
|
Actually we got the track dry for 4 hours on Sunday afternoon for some T&T. Powells had very hard luck with their new Cougar when on their second attempt of the day the motor decided to pitch a rod on the burnout. The rods were brand new & motor just freshened!! Ouch! Merrill Baker in his Camaro looks to have lost both his motor and his transmission on his second run of the year as well. There were several new cars out for their maiden runs with some very impressive numbers being run. Jason McNeil was on hand and entertained us with some very impressive wheel stands! Hopefully my next report will have some actual racing results. Next event June 28/29th.

Raceway Park Drag Racing Report
Weather played havoc with the completion of Sunday's race event. With about an hour of racing left a steady drizzle caused the event to be stopped. It was the second time in this young season that an event will have to be finished at a later date. The May Run event was actually finished Saturday before the two Gamblers' races. Today's race will be completed on Saturday, July 19 before that day's Gamblers' races.
The weather however could not dampen the enthusiasm of the racers over the new burnout pads and the improved transition area from the starting pads to the pavement. Things seemed to go smoother than ever and the Track Improvement Committee had racers raving about the traction with many racers boasting their best ever 60 ft times.
Below are the completed results for the May Run Weekend:

May 24-25
Report by Mitch Bonnar
Well the race season is upon us again and the first one is in the record books. It may have come too quickly for some as there were some with unfinished cars.
Saturday was one of those days, it would not rain properly or clear. We swept and mopped the pads numerous times and finally gave in to mother nature at 5:30 PM or so.
Sunday was a bright, warm, sunny day with a small breeze and a cloud here and there.
We started at 9:00 AM sharp. Other than the usual breakdowns the day went without a hitch and we had 3 time trials, a qualifying run and the eliminations completed by 5:30 PM.
I don't have the exact numbers but there were approx 140-150 racers and about 1100 spectators on Sunday. That is a super turnout for early season racing.
There were a few new cars, new racers and some new power plantws in the vehicles. Racing is alive and well.

I believe those present were amazed at the amount of work has been put into the facility. it is starting to look like a real race track now.
